Rhode Island College Ballroom Dance originated in the late 1980’s; since then the club has grown into one of the most prominent groups on campus. We offer lessons, which are free to Rhode Island College students, in both the American and International styles. We host multiple dances throughout the year where local colleges and members of the general public will join us for a night of social dancing. We also hold an annual showcase where our members get to show off what they have learned throughout the year. Some choreograph a dance routine on their own while others may have it choreographed for them or with help. Our team is also highly active in collegiate competitions. We compete in both American and International styles at competitions held by colleges all around New England. We also hold our own competition at Rhodes on the Pawtuxet. It’s an event you don’t want to miss! The club has gotten numerous awards throughout the years. A couple of these include Best Campus Program and Most Improved Organization, both from 2014. We received Best Social Event and other awards as well. Our Ballroom Dance team works together to accomplish goals. This is what makes us so successful. The team doesn’t just focus on dancing, but also on community. Our members support one another by cheering each other on and helping each other to learn and improve. They also meet and socialize with other students around Rhode Island and across New England. Our team is about having fun and learning to dance along the way. Remember, it’s so much more than just the Waltz!
